Each year, the esteemed Blue Ribbon Book Selection Committee, a specially selected panel of early childhood literacy experts, is responsible for reviewing hundreds of potential titles for inclusion in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Recent studies suggest participation in the Imagination Library is positively and significantly associated with higher measures of early language and math development. The Blue Ribbon Book Selection Committee takes great care in choosing books that meet the different needs of children as they progress from birth to age five. Additionally, the Book Selection Committee will choose titles with content representative of Canadian readers.
The Dollywood Foundation oversees the Imagination Library, funding and managing its infrastructure. This includes selecting books, negotiating wholesale purchases, printing, and operating a secure book ordering system. The Foundation covers administrative costs and ensures monthly book shipments.
Local Program Partners promote the Imagination Library, enroll children, secure funding, and contribute a community share per child monthly. All community-raised funds directly benefit local children.
Registered children receive personalized books with their name on the label, delivered monthly to their home until they turn five, without cost to their families. Children can enroll from birth and continue receiving books until their fifth birthday.
The Dollywood Foundation is committed to supporting local Imagination Library programs and communities. One focus of our recent work has been identifying common outcomes for all Imagination Library programs. This will ensure we are all on the same page and provide the best program possible for children and families. These research-based outcomes were identified through reviews of the literature and are considered to be building blocks for lifelong literacy, supported by the research, and aligned with the Imagination Library’s philosophy and goals.
We rely on individual donors, service clubs, and other non-profit organizations to support our program locally.
We believe every child should have access to great books and having them shipped directly to child's home makes it fun for them and easy for parents. If you agree, please consider making a donation.
